The Journey Begins!

A young man arrives at San Lorenzo Friary located amid the rolling hills of the Santa Ynez Valley, which is 30 miles north of Santa Barbara.

He kneels with his family in front of the Blessed Sacrament and, like Saint Francis did 800 years ago, talks to Jesus and says "Lord tell me what to do." And so an amazing journey begins into the Capuchin Franciscan Order.

Twenty-Two Young Men Begin Novitiate

A big smile lit up his face as the Capuchin Franciscan habit was placed on him. The dream of Ernesto Sanchez, Christopher Silva and twenty other young men was coming true. Now they could truly say "I am a Capuchin Brother."

This beautiful simple ceremony took place at San Lorenzo Friary, among the rolling hills of Santa Ynez Valley, Sunday, July 24, 2011.

These young men come from all over the United States, Guam, Canada and England. They will spend the coming year living in community (35), intense prayer, meditation, study and ministry.

May Jesus, Mary and Saint Francis watch over, bless and protect them and the Novitiate team of Brothers Frank Grinko, Robert Barbato, Jerard O'Dempsey and Jerry Johnson. Thanks to all of you for praying for Vocations. How blest we are!
