On
May 4, 2011 Brother Hai Ho was ordained a deacon at Our Lady of
Angels Parish in Burlingame, CA, a parish which is staffed by the
Capuchin Franciscan friars. Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco,
Bishop Robert McElory ordained Br. Hai in the presence of many
friars, friends and family.
Br.
Hai is currently studying for the priesthood at the Dominican
School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, CA. He is hoping to
be ordained to the priesthood sometime in 2012.
Born
in 1981 in a refugee camp in Malaysia, Br. Hai earned a
bachelor’s degree in religious studies and philosophy from St.
Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. He first encountered the Capuchins
while attending college and later spent a year volunteering with
Cap Corps in Washington D.C. were he further discerned religious
life. He entered the order in 2004, made his first profession in
November 2006 and made his perpetual profession in April 2011.
During
his early years in formation as a Capuchin, Br. Hai has worked
with various youth and young adult groups, helped put together a
Vietnamese hymnal, and interned as a hospital chaplain. Br. Hai
also spent a year assisting as a campus minister at St. Francis
High School in La Canada-Flintridge, CA.
Our
Lady of Angel Province currently has four other friars in
formation in California. In addition, the province has 30 friars
in formation at their mission in Northern Mexico.
